We are the Friends of Dewey Parks, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We are a like-minded group of individuals who were born, raised, or currently reside here. Together we recognized a need for renovation of the local parks in our town and are working to achieve that goal.
The City of Dewey sits in the northeast corner of Oklahoma. We are 5 miles north of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and approximately 50 miles north of Tulsa, Oklahoma. For a small town of 3500, we can boast about our businesses and family activities. [more]
Our goal is to create an inclusive play space that is accessible for all members of our community. Our first renovation, Lions Park, will feature equipment that challenges both mental and physical skills. Activities will offer inclusive traditional and new concepts that encourage fun and opportunities for exploration. [More]
UPDATE December
It’s been an exciting Fall for Friends of Dewey Parks!
On November 4 we were asked to attend a meeting of the Dewey City Council. Mayor Tom Hays presented a check for $7,500 to Friends of Dewey Parks. Cindy Bray, president of Friends of Dewey Parks, accepted the check. This donation has made it possible for us to reach our initial goal, qualifying for the matching $50,000 grant from the Lyon Foundation. This will allow us to purchase the first piece of accessible equipment for the park! We have a long way to go to fully furnish the park but we are much encouraged. Thank you Dewey City Council!

The City has really stepped up in helping this project to proceed. Their giant contribution to the infrastructure of the park cannot be understated. Work is now underway on the accessible public restrooms.
Construction of the accessible public restrooms is underway
We participated in several fundraising opportunities.
On November 2 we sold hot dog lunches at the Dewey Swap Meet, netting $500. That evening we attended a “paddle party” put on by the Bartlesville Civitan club and will receive a portion of the proceeds.
On November 14 we participated in the Celebrate Giving event put on by the Kiwanis Club. The event introduces local nonprofit organizations to the public, letting them know who we are and how they can help. Nearly fifty organizations were represented. We talked to lots of people, explained our project and made many good contacts. In addition, we received a gift of an email blast that will allow us to reach many more people with news of our project.
We hope you join us in Downtown Dewey for these special events:
Thursday, December 5 was the community tree lighting ceremony. Attendees enjoyed special treats at the Dewey Hotel from 6 pm to 8 pm, free family photos in the Hotel Parlor, musical entertainment from the Dewey High School Holiday Choir, and special sales at downtown merchants.
Saturday, December 14 is the nighttime Christmas Parade starting at 5:30 pm. The theme for this year is “Fantasy Wonderland”. If you would like to participate in the parade contact Cassie at City Hall at 918-534-2272. Entry is free!
Before the parade Santa will be greeting youngsters at the Dewey Hotel from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
The Friends wish you the most wonderful, peaceful Christmas and a Happy New year!
